We’re seeking Mechanical Engineers to join the hardware team, work closely with our electrical and software engineers, create new mechanisms, and help us build the next generation of healthcare technology robots!
Description
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer at Openshelf, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and implementing mechanical systems and components for our robots. You will work alongside our 2 founders who are both engineers with proven successful startup track records.
Responsibilities will include:
Designing and prototyping cartesian robot arms
Creating end-effectors and grippers to pick up a variety of objects
Investigating features to simplify robot construction, installation, and maintenance
Conducting tests and experiments to validate your design concepts and ensure product performance and reliability
Engineers with more senior experience would also be expected to engage in mentoring and guiding junior engineers as we scale towards high-volume manufacturing.
Specifically, your responsibilities will include:
Designing and prototyping cartesian robot arms

Conducting tests and experiments to validate your design concepts and ensure product performance and reliability
Qualifications
Note that this an onsite role. Candidates must be able to commute to Newark, NJ at least 4 days per week. We are located near a PATH and NJ Transit station.
At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in robotics or automation.
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software, such as Onshape, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.
Experience in rapid prototyping and 3D printing.
Familiarity with basic hand tools: drills, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
Familiarity with motion components, like stepper motors, pumps, solenoids, and linear actuators
Engineers interviewing for a senior designation should additionally posses:
Experience moving a product from small-scale to high-volume manufacturing.
Demonstrated proficiency in project management, prioritizing tasks, managing risks, and adapting to changing product requirements.
Experience collaborating with third-party vendors and fabricators.
Familiarity with Design For Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
